Route or fleet scheduling software is used when no specific appointment time is needed. What is most important is optimization -maximizing the number of units of work done per time period. Utility meter reading would be one such example starting with an arbitrary assignment of stops to vehicles and routes. By analyzing thousands of route drive time combinations using fleet management software, routes for each vehicle in the fleet are created to allow the maximum amount of units (ex gas meters) to be reached in a given time period.
